I have been photographing more or less from since I was kid. My dad got me a Kodak Instamatic, then I started using his Pentax. This was the started to develop an interest for darkrooms. -My dad had (still has) a really nice old Opemus enlarger. So I then started to become even more interested in photography, before long I had saved up some money from my extra work after school I purchsed a Chinon CP 4M. Make no mistake...this was a HUGE step up!!! :-) I had motor and everything. About a week later Canon EOS 600 came...and Mr. Olsen just HAD to have it. Then about half a year later I finished school and started working for ExpressFoto. We developed E6 controlled by Kodak Q-Lab, RA4, C41, printed digital... in short: LOADS of different services. By now I was 19, and only planned to stay in the store for a year. But my boss offered me a gread deal to participate in a photo cource lead by Morten Krogvold (and Johan Bruun) at the time if I stayed for an additional year. Barabing...I was hooked.

Literally before I got my first paycheck I had spent it on...jupp...you guessed it... a new camera. Canon EOS10. I stayed there from 1990 - 2000. 10 brilliant years where I went through the most magnificent cameras possible at the given time. I have a feeling I almost gave my mum and dad a hear attack every time they saw a box with a camera at the table back home. I still remember the look on my dad's face when he saw the boxes to the Nikon F4...just shaking his head while I went: "No dad...it's not what you think... my boss told me to take it back home and check it out..." After some times I seem to remember the reply from my day was: "Yeah right...you bought it...didn't you..?" :-)))

My boss was the owner of the store, and we sometimes could have quite some insane discussions. Despite this I believe I still owe him quite a bit for being the one I am today when it comes to managing day to day work, and my dad for getting me into photography. We were based right next to another large photo store named J&S Foto, and had a uniqe way of working together. (sometimes I have to admit I kind of miss that.....) The years passed and I got to meet and get to know some of the (in my humble opinion) best photographers in the country, as well as work closely with designers and graphic artists. In 2000 I moved to Ireland. To something completely different than the business with photo and photography. -Still here...and haven't regret a second of it. After a while without photographing the good feeling is here again, and I now use digital for everything. Competitions...only entered once,,,but will indeed fo more. Following a tip of a good friend of mine at work..Anita... I entered the RTE (television channel here in Ireland) winter weather photo competition here in Ireland, where I got one the place as one of the 5 runners up. It's cropped to fit a the competition, but if you would like to see it in all...have a look here. That's it for now folks... Cheers! Ivar :-)
